Oct. 15, 2024 – Water service updates

Customers in the West Buncombe area may begin seeing water service return this morning as Asheville water feeds are being restored. Water is not considered safe to drink and should be boiled vigorously for several minutes before drinking or cooking. Water is safe to use for all other non-potable purposes. Customers are asked to conserve water as much as possible as water line breaks and low pressure areas continue to be identified.
Customers in the Baird Cove and Reynolds Mountain areas may notice water services interrupted sporadically as new water line breaks are located and isolated.

Oct. 13, 2024 – System updates

District crews continue to locate and repair water main leaks and breaks as we work to restore water to all customers. Customers in the New Stock Road and Baird Cove Road areas may notice water services sporadically resuming as adjustments to the system and repairs are being made. All customers are advised that the District is still under a Boil Water notice and are also asked to conserve water to the greatest extent possible. Customers can assist by phoning in any noticed leaks to 828-253-5551. We appreciate everyone’s patience as we work to recover from the catastrophic flooding event of two weeks ago.

Oct. 9, 2024 – System update

Customers in the Weaverville/New Stock Road/Baird Cove Road area will experience alternating periods of water loss and pressure as crews perform system tests during the remainder of the week. All customers are reminded that the District has issued a boil water notice for all customers until system repairs and pressure issues are completed.

Oct. 3, 2024 – Water system updates

District personnel are beginning water system testing over the next 12-24 hours. Please turn off all water consuming devices during this time. Customers that receive any water services should boil it vigorously for several minutes before consuming. Customers in the West Buncombe area will still be disabled as City of Asheville services work to restore services.

Oct. 1, 2024 – water system update

District crews have repaired a major water line washout & damaged area from the hurricane. Service is not yet restored but more testing is now possible. If your water is restored in any capacity it must be boiled vigorously for several minutes before drinking.

Water system update, Sept. 29, 2024, 8 PM

As is the case for most systems in our area, the District has significant damages from the hurricane. Some customers may still have water services and the District hopes to restart water production within the next few days as damaged areas are discovered and isolated and necessary repairs are made. Currently the District has no power at many of its facilities and limited ability to run generators on site due to washed out bridges and damaged roads preventing refueling efforts and other critical supply delivery. The Buncombe County emergency operations center is working with state and federal officials to set up potable water stations as quickly as possible for Buncombe County residents. We encourage all customers to sign up for mobile text alerts in order to stay informed on information as it becomes available.
